Four Congresswomen
This piece is a reaction to Trump's tweet, calling out progressive congresswomen: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley in xenophobic terms, saying, "Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came."
The four congresswomen, "The Squad," have been some of the most vocal critics of both Trump and their own party on the issue of immigration.
They represent the demographic diversity of a younger political generation, and for this reason, they have been attacked and marginalized. As a feminist immigrant to this country where I have been given opportunities, I feel a kinship and sisterhood with The Squad. They represent the future for many women and girls of color, and as an artist, I am inspired to promote their message.
As the mother of two young girls, I strive to raise strong, independent voices to drive positive change.
I had the incredible honor to have this piece showcased in the De Young Museum in their Open exhibition from October 2020 to January 2021.
